Given the choice and an optimal morning, whole bean all the way. Even though I have an electric grinder, I’ve got a hand grinder that’s quiet, fun to use and does a great job before the water is even hot.
But I keep ground on hand for lazy days and a jar of instant bustelo for a really quick hit (especially for an iced coffee). The pod is the least desirable option, but if that’s all that’s around I’m not going to say no. It’s a lifesaver in an office - although next time I have to go to the office if I have room in my luggage it would be fun to pack some beans, grinder, and aeropress just to be that guy and make the pod people jealous. And bring extra beans to earn a few favors.

And then perhaps they will guilt or shame you or try to to nudge you to do it more often

You already know you have superior coffee in that private pleasure of one’s own mind kind of way

Also last week my brother-in-law gifted me some organic Honduras he was roasting on his porch when we got there at 7000ft outside of Boulder CO
I don’t go there; that’s above my sophistication level.
I drink mostly instant coffee, so I could be in the “pre-brewed versus fresh-brewed” discussion.
(Don’t judge me. I’m content with it. It’s caffeine.)

Does anyone here roast their own beans? I’m curious how long it takes and if it’s worth the wait.
